A brother in Christ who lives in India once told me how his three-year-old daughter, Sanju, always waited for him to come home from work each evening. With the sound of each approaching motor scooter, she believed that it must be her papa coming home to her and her mother. She continued to faithfully wait for him no matter how late he had to work. And eventually each day, of course, her perseverance was rewarded when her loving father arrived home. How sweet it was of that little girl to wait so attentively and patiently for her father whom she loved and wanted to be near.

In the scriptures, Jesus teaches that we should become like little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3; Matthew 19:14; Mark 10:14). In addition, Jesus also admonishes us to watch for Him and always be ready for His return (Matthew 24:42; Matthew 25:13; Mark 13:35-37; Luke 12:35-40). While these separate scriptures are clear enough, they gain new meaning when considered together. Just as Sanju faithfully and enthusiastically watched and waited for her papa, we Christians should watch for Jesus to return for us.
